Lagavulin Fèis Ìle 2024 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl
Delving into uncharted territories, Lagavulin is also releasing the Lagavulin Fèis Ìle 2024 10-Year-Old. A 'prototype' of this extra-heavily peated stock was sampled during the Lagavulin Malt Mill session at last year’s festival, when a few lucky fans experienced it at a special tasting.
The dedicated team at the Islay distillery utilised malt with higher peating levels than usual and matured its resulting liquid in refill, heavily charred and first fill ex-bourbon American oak hogshead casks to create this powerful expression. Revealing savoury maritime nuances of iodine and dry seaweed with an underlying strong smoke, this complex bottle remains true to the beloved Lagavulin profile cherished by fans.
Jordan Paisley, Lagavulin Distillery Manager said, “This year we’re releasing two very different expressions, but with a very similar inspiration: the way special moments, like Fèis Ìle or the Northern Lights on Islay, are capable of bringing people together. Just like Lagavulin has been uniting fans all over the world through its unique whisky, it is a very special moment for us.”

Medium to full
Of medium length, with more smoke and hot white peppery spiciness, finishing dry. It becomes lightly saltier with a dash of water, yet the pepper still punches through.
Mild, clear and dry overall, with quite some prickle. Slow to rise, the first notes to emerge are maritime, suggesting salt crystals, iodine and dry seaweed. In the background, gentle smoke hints at coal dust and peat ash, joined after a while by a faint carbolic note. The aroma becomes more mineral if water is added, while the smoky note recedes.
A creamy-smooth, mouth-filling, and surprisingly full-bodied texture brings forth a sweet initial taste with a mouth-watering appeal, soon becoming lightly salty, with fast-growing, billowing smoke. Lightly coating as it spreads across the tongue and simply, very smoky. Powerful in its sheer clarity of taste.
