The Singleton
Design legend Henry Holland, founder of Henry Holland Studio, has created a stunning limited edition run of a two-sided hand-blown glass for The Singleton, premium single malt Scotch whisky brand, which aims to inspire cocktail connoisseurs, whisky aficionados and design enthusiasts to immerse themselves in shared moments of deep connection.
Taking inspiration from vintage 1950s glass silhouettes, the designer added a fun, modern twist by creating a premium, hand-blown glass vessel with two different ends. One end features a martini glass, recognising the growing use and enjoyment of single malts in cocktail culture. The other side features a snifter glass, which has a wide bottom and narrow top, a shape which helps to amplify the complex aromas in The Singleton, including hints of honeycomb, ripe autumn fruits, and malt and cereal notes.
The Singleton of Dufftown 15 Year Old
The Singleton is a single scotch malt whisky founded in 1897. Using a long fermentation process and signature Slow Batch Distillation, we gently hone and nurture our spirit until it’s the pinnacle of what it should be. Master Distiller, Craig Wilson then slowly matures the spirit in a combination of European and American oak barrels, producing layers upon layers of perfectly balanced flavour.
The result is a rich and perfectly balanced single malt that’s effortlessly enjoyable from the first sip. The Singleton has established itself with a portfolio of award-winning malts ranging from 12-year-olds to the most recent 40-year-old trophy release.
Body: Medium bodied and pleasantly mouth coating.
Finish: Drying. Pears and digestive biscuits, then delicately spiced with notes of aniseed.
Nose: Slightly spicy nosefeel and drying, overall. Toffee apples. Hints of honeycomb balanced by remnants of youthful zestiness - linseed oil and scented tea. Becomes fruitier: ripe autumn fruits combined with red berry sharpness. Malt and cereal notes. Some golden syrup sweetness. Reassuringly well balanced. Adding water brings up a waxier note initially, with traces of sweet chestnut and glace angelica, and then a whiff of smoke or charred wood.
Palate: Without water, the flavour is sweet to start then drying in the finish. Warming, light and smooth; tending to delicate. Malty and oaty base notes. Fresh fruit salad, with spicy and floral top notes. With water added there’s a pleasant mouthfeel. Some sweetness, though the overall effect remains balanced and dry.
